Fireworks are categorized as aerial if they perform in the air and ground if they stay on the ground. The aerial ones provide their own propulsion by a mortar shell.
Common features of most fireworks are a pasteboard tube that is filled with the explosive material, Many of the tubes are combined so that they will make a wide variety of sparkling shapes when they are lit, commonly different colors. Skyrockets are a common type of firework, but they were first used in war. The mortar shell is smaller in the commercial type for consumers to use.
The first document use of fireworks was in 7th century China in hopes of scaring away the evil spirts with their bang and to pray for happiness and wealth. However, before the 14th century, the fireworks in China were mainly for the rich and royalty. Only the Ming Dynasty saw it befitting occasions for common people such as births, weddings, or a New Year’s festivity.
Fireworks can be dangerous to the person lighting them and onlookers if they are not used correctly. They can also start fires if they land of combustible material. Due to safety hazards, there are usually legal restrictions placed on the use of them. Display fireworks are only allowed to be used by licensed professionals. The consumer versions are smaller with less explosives in them in an effort to make them less dangerous.
There are fireworks clubs in the United States which were created to get amateurs and professionals together. They have organized meetings and provide safety instructions. They have private shoots with commercial fireworks and they also fire some of their own creations. Clubs have to have permission to shoot anything that is now allowed for public use. They shoot everything from one shell to creations that are set to music. Crackerjacks, Inc. is one of the oldest clubs and it was formed in 1976.
Many countries hold fireworks competitions. One of the best know is the Montreal Fireworks Festival. It is held annually in Quebec. Another famous competition is the World Pyro Olympics. It is a competition of all the top fireworks companies worldwide. It occurs in Manila, Philippines. This is one of the biggest and exciting international competition.
